gallery day

Posted by Clare Brookes on Sunday, October 31, 2010,
Today was the first Sunday opening ofI Sawtell art group as a gallery. The rooms are looking really good and we're open again next Sunday if you want to come and see what the students have been working on. I've had a great day arranging artworks and learning how stock sheets work and doing a little bit of work on my new big painting (see my works in progress section)

Last Day Of The Artist's Way

Posted by Clare Brookes on Saturday, October 30, 2010,
I've been working thru The Artist's Way for the last 12 weeks, tomoro is the last day, and the first day the Sawtell Art Group opens as a Sunday gallery, and the day before Nanowrimo begins!

I've had an amazing journey with TAW and got a lot out of it, not least a really good new friend. I feel more confident in my desire to be an artist. I'm not sure which direction to follow with my art but maybe it'll take care of itself.

I'm rereading some bits of the book and working out how to continue ...

Halloween

Posted by Clare Brookes on Thursday, October 28, 2010,
Halloween is creeping up on us, in the dark with ominous creeking floorboards and spooky music.

When I was a child my Mum put on the most amazing Halloween parties, with all us kids and most of the adults dressed up as spacemen, fairies, witches and toads. We had green fairy cakes, apple bobbing, cake bobbing, pin the spider on the web, hide and seek skeletons, feely boxes with "worms", "guts" and "eyeballs" she really went all out.

I'm spending this Halloween at the Sawtell art centre. We are ...

The usefulnesity of Etsy Storque

Posted by Clare Brookes on Friday, October 22, 2010,
This ones for Etsyans and Etsyans to be:
I am currently trying to improve my Etsy shop (www.etsy.com/shop/faerieclare) which sells all sorts of things inspired by my small person - Norah. I sell lots of paintings for kids as well as other treasures. I've been reading up on the Storque - it's so useful, I can't believe I have not found much time to look at it before. Time is a precious commodity in my life as I just want to spend all day with Miss Norah before she starts school (not for 2 years...

Sawtell Art Group

Posted by Clare Brookes on Thursday, October 14, 2010,
I joined Sawtell Art Group this year and the annual exhibition has just ended. I sold someone else's painting (doh!) but it was a good feeling and a beautiful painting. Soon we'll be opening regularly on Sundays, which I'm looking forward to, so if you are in the Coffs area with not much to do, drop in and see us xx

Nanowrimo

Posted by Clare Brookes on Wednesday, October 6, 2010,
My brother made me start Nano last year and I'm glad he did. He almost really, literally, actually forced me to join him (as much as is possible from the other side of the world) I started 8 days in, which you'll realise is a big deal if you've particpated. If not - National Novel Writing Month is a crazy way to spend November. The idea is to write 50,000 words in a month, most people write novel but there are a few short storyists and non-fiction writers in the mix. It's crazy kamikaze writi...

high tide

Posted by Clare Brookes on Tuesday, October 5, 2010,
The rain finally stopped after nearly a week of torrential downpour. I took my little girl for a piggyback along the beach. Everyone was out, the beach was packed (for Sawtell) I think we'd all been desperate to get out and see our beloved beach. You can bearly avoid living round here without being affected by the pull of the beach! In front of the surf club the beach had been carved away by the water leaving a ledge (inhabited by a dead fish - fascinating conversation for a 3 year old) furth...

Who Knows Where The Time Goes

Posted by Clare Brookes on Monday, October 4, 2010,
When the clocks changed this week my homesickness jumped up and poked me in the heart with a cold wintery finger. I miss the seasons changing. Another year with no snow, no twisting fractal frost patterns on the windows, no frozen fairy blankets on the hedgerows. It's torrential rain here in Sawtell, the kind that keeps you inside all day and makes your kids crazy!

I love the English summertime too: the smell and the little rain showers and you're so glad it's sunny cos the spring is so bloody...

Random Creative Fun

Posted by Clare Brookes on Saturday, October 2, 2010,

I have recently been playing around with those silly games of childhood and boring math classes - heads and bodies, one line stories, one word stories and consequeunces. (There's a great article on Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exquisite_corpse) It's great fun. It produces some surreal pictures and stories. It is not serious so if you want to get your creative groove on but are afraid to start (as so many of us are) it'll get your juices flowing. Try playing when you are not entirely stra...
